Hey everyone, I've been busy-busy lately, but I got a chance to check out the Supersonic Electronic Invitational over at Spoke Art on Thursday 1/5/12 and it was pretty awesome. I got to see a lot of my favorite contemporary artists in person. The difference between seeing something in person versus online is WAY different. It's very awe-inspiring and can have a profound affect on you in a strange and good way.
I took a few pics (it got crowded pretty fast, sorry for the skewed positioning)

I particularly enjoyed seeing the works of Erik Jones, Sam Wolfe Connelly, Joao Ruas, Conrad Roset and Tatiana Suarez in person, I've been following their works for varying amounts of years/months and I was extremely impressed by the degree of tallent these artists possess, as well as the many others that were exhibited.

I also got to look at a painting by Charmaine Olivia who is having a show on 1/14/2012 at Shooting Gallery and I'm very excited to check her work out in person as well. Oh, and before I forget, I was super stoked to pick up a free tumblr tote bag with some stickers and other free-bees, my companion and I were pleased about those too.

Hey everyone, It's been a while since I've updated on here, but I've been a bit busy with new works. Mostly everything I do now will most likely be traditional analog style works. Some digital here and there, but mostly all Oil on Canvas works. Here are a few works in progress photos (don't mind the crappy cell phone cam quality pics).

I'll also be updating GrimHearts1985.com later this year as these paintings are finished. Hopefully I'll get to work seemingly non-stop on my work from now on. I'm hoping to get the PRINTS section of my site up and running, I'll be posting more photos as these paintings progress, hopefully you all will like what I produce.

WonderCon 2011 went AMAZINGLY!!!!!
I got to meet a bunch of amazing artists and people! I showed up pretty early with my buddy James and ended up getting him in for free! It definitely started off with a laugh. As per tradition for the past couple years, Artist Alley is hit first since it gets packed the most.

Adam Hughes!!! He was super awesome and was doing sketches, I managed to get a sketch and pic with him. (pictured above) If you don't know who he is, look him up, his artwork is incredible!

Greg Horn was next (pictured above with Galactus hat) He was way cool and he signed my book and took a pic with James and myself. We both geeked out a bit over his awesome artwork.

Jim Silke was way cool, this man has been around for years! His pinup style is freakin' phenomenal! I highly suggest you check him out if you're into pin up artwork. I got one of his books and he was very kind to sign it and my autograph book as well.

Richard Kiel - you know him from 'Happy Gilmore' and 'The Spy Who Loved Me', he was nice, but he charges for pics and autographs (and I was on a budget) so we just said 'Hi'.

Lou Ferrigno - DUH! you all know him as THE HULK My cousin and I met him last year, and well...let's just say he's kinda grumpy. He might be hecka cool outside conventions, but my second encounter with him, was basically the same as the first. But at least I have a funny story to tell people.

Peter Mayhew - CHEWBACCA!!!!! What else needs to be said?

Finally we have ELVIRA MISTRESS OF THE DARK!!!!! She looked AMAZING! James and I trolled about till she arrived and when she did, we made a mad dash for her table and took tons of pics paparazzi style. No joke, we were about 1ft away from her. She's been around for a long while, but still looks bangin'. HOLLER HOLLER HOLLER!!!!

All and all, I had a great time, we chatted with the girls at the Suicide Girls table, counted 8 Pikachus, 4 Batman, 3 Jokers, 2 Captain Americas, I say 2 Adventure Time costumes, and an army of Storm Troopers. Also we took pics with a princess and Tinkerbell, R2D2 and took pics of some Gundam figures and saw a 5 minute trailer of the upcoming 'Green Lantern' movie. It looks siq as fuq!~

Hopefully next year is just as awesome as these last 3 that I've attended.

Warhol Re-Imagined!

I attended the opening reception of the Warhol Re-imagined show last night, and it was pretty awesome! It was held at Project One Gallery in San Francisco and had dozens of pieces by many well known and up and coming artists, like these 3 here.

There was also a wall lined with different Campbell's Soup paintings, which of course Warhol was famous for with his '32 Campbell's Soup Cans'. There was one by Decimus which was pretty rad, and a whole bunch of others that were quite amazing. I would definitely go and check them out for yourself. There were also 2 other pieces by Rene Garcia Jr. at the gallery that are not Warhol related, but very impressive none the less, one above the bar and one by the DJ booth, both measuring well over 15FT each and made solely of glitter!
All this was possible of course by the amazing Angela Massacre (check out her blog, she's way cool) her team of peeps put on a great show and you can see it now through April 19, 2011.

I went to 2 art shows last night: 'Suavecito' at Pueblo Nuevo Gallery in Berkeley, and 'Here Be Monsters!' Closing Reception at Space Gallery in San Francisco.
I got to hang out with the awesome Mayra Ramirez aka Hella Breezy - Check her blog out, it's the shit! She's also super cool and very nice and funny. She was also super nice and gave me a print by El Angel.

Here Be Monsters: There were a few dozen artists and I'd recommend checking out the Space Gallery site to see some of the work while it's still up. I was particularly drawn to the work of Doug Fortin, he had about a dozen pieces all ranging in style and technique. His 'Vulture' piece along with 3 other birds of prey paintings were my favorite.

HEY ALL! I went to the 'Sketch 4 Sketch' tour hosted at Upper Playground in San Francisco! It was on Saturday 5/8/10, I waited 5 HOURS!!! hahaha but it was really worth it! It was scheduled for 2pm to 5pm, I got there at 2pm and waited in a line about 100+ people, I left at around 7:30 or so. The artists were so awesome to keep going even after the scheduled time. Luckily while I waited, I made a friend in line, she gave me some string cheese, it was delish! the rest of the people were super chill and really awesome. There were originally 4 artist: Alex Pardee, David Correia, Nate Van Dyke and Jeremy Fish, unfortunatley, Jeremy Fish had prior obligations and left at 5:30. I had met Nate Van Dyke in December one night in SF and ran into him, it was pretty insane!

WONDERCON 2010!!!

What an awesome time!

My 2nd year going and i had a really awesome time. I went with my cousin Jaime (you can check his work out here: http://jaimeramirezart.blogspot.com/ ) also I ran into my other cousin Saul (you can check out his work here: http://saulruiz.blogspot.com/ )

On top of seeing the amazing costumes and lovely people that are as eager as you, if not more eager, i got to see a ton of AMAZING artists and writers and Jaime and I got to meet and talk with a hand full of them!!! I got a ton of autographs in my black book, more than last year. The only ones I was disappointed that I didn't get were Adam Hughes (http://www.justsayah.com/ ) who I was told didn't show up for the Saturday part of the Con, AND David Finch (http://www.dfinchartist.com/ ) who was super crowded with fans and he was doing commissions and I would've felt like a dick cutting in front of everyone to get his autograph, but i saw him draw for a bit which was a treat in in itself.

The people posted above are just SOME of the amazing talents we got to meet. LOU FERRIGNO!!! at the very top, the funniest story ever with a famous person, that Jaime and I ever experienced. Jaime's camera was dying just as Lou was getting ready to pose, so Jaime flustered and rushed to grab more batteries out of his bag, Lou was kinda impatient and said "could you please hurry up, there are other people waiting" NOBODY WAS BEHIND US! HAHAHA!!! kinda messed up of him to say but funny to us after the fact. Anyways Lou had a Polaroid camera, handed it to me to take the picture of Lou and Jaime. Freakin camera cut off 1/2 of Lou's head! WTF HAHAHA!!! so we got Jaime's camera working again and just took video of both of them kinda posing and flexing. the best like 10 minutes ever with someone famous. good times.

Ok now back to naming names, the lovely and very kinda Nei Ruffino (http://bakanekonei.deviantart.com/) second after Lou, and was very kind to sign my book, also side note, Nei if you're reading this, i'm the guy who's book you signed :) haha you told me to do it, so i did it!

Next is a really awesome artist we met as we were leaving Fangling Lee (http://fanglinglee.com/) she had an awesome collection of work and she was super cool.

Next was my defeat and not getting to really meet David Finch :(

Then we have Alvin Lee (http://alvinlee.deviantart.com/ ) can't really see his face since he was so nice and did a quick Akuma sketch in my book and signed it!

Finally Mr. Frank Cho!!! We caught him as he was leaving his table and he was really awesome, signed my book and let me take a quick picture. We later caught up with him and I got a signed sketchbook of his.

I want to start of by thanking Hyphen Magazine for allowing me to participate in this amazing event and give a shout out to my friend Andrea for refering me to this event, and Lianlian for actually setting me up for the event and also Alex Chiu, one of the artists that was there as well, check his stuff out it's really great work: http://alexchiu.carbonmade.com
I was nervous for the first 10 minutes but soon felt relaxed after overhearing people give positive feed back which in turn gave me a confidence boost. i do regret not having some makeshift business cards though :( but it was all fun and i had a blast! There were 2 rooms going at once and the music and whole vibe and turnout was incredible. There was a mini-contest and a fashion show of what looked like lingerie by Vintage Joy: http://www.ehappyvintagejoy.blogspot.com/ check her stuff out it was really impressive.
What was really cool and i gushed over was a projection on a huge wall with one of my digital pieces and my and Alex's names on it, i was gonna take a pic but was too late :( but still it was bad ass seeing my name on a huge wall. Anyways, I hope to do something like this again soon because it was super amounts of fun, and it was a very humbling experience.

Hello, I invite you to come and see my very first mini series "The Collective"

It consists of 3 main female role models and influences, who stand out to me in a very positive way.
Let me guide you through them.

Cuca is an artist from Las Vegas Nevada, born her in the bay area. She has an incredible array of paintings and is very talented, she has exhibited her artwork in galleries before and she first caught my eye several months ago and she has an eye of depicting females quite tastefully and ellegantly. Although I haven't had the opportunity of meeting her in person, I do think that she is a positive role model for any artist out there. I hope to one day meet her and tell her that she is a great artist and I am proud to call her my friend.

Andrea, a all around busy woman who is always working on several projects, from radio dj to youtube channel icon to internet show vj, always on the move and always looking for something big. I met her a long time ago in a math course during a summer at Stanford University when I was in 7th grade, and later met her with mutual friends and have been running into her ever since. I once said to her "Everything you touch turns to gold" I still believe it and she definatley has held up to it. Being on the airwaves and on the internet she has had a great inmpact and influence many in my opinion, if you didn't know, now you know.

Domini, oh Domini, what is to be said about this lovely and brilliant woman? An amazing artist of crafts and the like, she has made her own book, covers, pages and all, a queen of knick knacks and patty wacks, and incredibly talented. She works for a publishing company and designs book covers; if you ever picked up a book just by how intruiging you found the cover and ended up liking the book afterall, that's exactly how domini is, you'll want to meet her because she's so interesting, and you'll never meet one of the nicest women out ther than her. She radiates happy go lucky-ness.

I hope to have captured all of your female beauty and likeness and strength, without women, men would be nothing. "This world would be nothing without a woman or a girl" to quote the late James Brown and he was right, without the strength, power, beauty and softness of a woman, men would cease to be.

I hope you enjoy The Collective, please leave comments and praise, for these women deserve it.

I've posted a few of the things I've been working on/ things that I've finished, and I feel accomplished, and I feel like I'm progressing everytime I start a new piece, which is always a good thing. I hope to build up my speed and maybe, even incorporate new effects and other techniques to my art, so I dont seem, repetetive. let me know how im improving or if I need improvments on stuff. I don't know if I should add anything else or if I'm missing some sort of essential, but let me know, hopefully there will be a finished version in graphite soon, and maybe in the future, a color one!
