Hey everyone! Apologies for the inactivity lately, I've been busy on various projects. Hopefully you'll enjoy these paintings. These are all still life paintings I've done over the past several months and the Bianchi painting was in a show at Studio Gallery in San Francisco. I want to do more still life paintings soon since they can teach you a whole lot about proportion, value, color, perspective, etc. I highly suggest you try doing still life paintings whenever you can, it's a great challenge to paint or draw from life and a great way to help you improve your skills!

I haven't done a painting in a while with more flesh showing, and I've had this one lying around kind of half started, so i thought I'd just bang it out and used only natural hair brushes to get a more painterly/finished look. I tried my best to somewhat emulate Jeremy Mann's style backgrounds by accident using a pallet knife. Took about 2 sessions to complete. I hope you like it!

Nieces' Presents

I painted these for my 2 nieces since they asked me to paint them some birds of paradise. I obviously couldn't say no to the, plus it gave me a chance to try my hand at applying my skills on some new subjects. Both are 8x10 oil on canvas board. Enjoy!

This was partially done while I was attending Casey Baugh's paint workshop in San Francisco. All of the students had a mini photo shoot with the model Nicole and learned Casey's process on how to effectively use a photograph as reference. I worked on this painting for 2 days, about 6 hours each day building up the foundation for the face and placing all the features and making sure the proportions were all correct. I continued working on this recently after a hiatus and had to fix the colors of the face, making certain parts warmer and bringing some shadows into light, as well as working on the hair and background. I definitely learned so much during that workshop and I recommend anyone that is hesitant to attend one or feels like they need pointers/want to learn more from an artist they admire, it's a solid way to go.

Bill Murray

"Lost in Translation"

This painting was pretty damn fun to paint! I've been a Bill Murray fan for a long time, and when I was approached to do a piece inspired by him and his works, I was very stoked! Lost In Translation is one of my all time favorite movies, the fact that it has Bill Murray in it has a lot to do with that, so I thought I'd take a stab at painting him as his character "Bob Harris". It was a toss up between this, Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters and Rushmore. I might do one of those other ones some day...

This piece will be exhibited at the event: The Murray Affair: The Bill Murray Art Show
All the info can be found there, but the show is happening on August 8th in San Francisco at Public Works SF and I'm very exited about it!

This was a fun portrait for my long time friend. It was a gift for his birthday. I intended on painting a larger version of this back in 2010 in acrylics (which was my chosen medium back then) but i kept fussing with it and could never get the hang of it. Now that i'm more comfortable in my chosen medium of oils, I thought I'd give this another shot, and I really enjoyed the outcome!
